Frederick, MD | The Art of the Sermon 2026

It is time again for one of Waypoint’s best events: the gathering of leaders from around the region for our “The Art of the Sermon” seminar.

For the past decade, we have invited nationally known preachers to share their stories of learning to prepare, refine, and present dynamic sermons each week.
This year Waypoint is excited to have Chris Barras.

Chris Barras is the lead pastor and planter of Area 10 Faith Community in Richmond, Virginia—a Waypoint church plant launched in 2008. Known for preaching that is clear, practical, and deeply rooted in Scripture, Chris brings a pastoral heart to the craft of the sermon, helping leaders communicate God’s Word in ways that form non-anxious leaders and cultivate emotionally healthy churches. He continues to teach and lead at Area 10 while mentoring pastors and leaders across the Waypoint network and beyond.

In addition to his pastoral ministry, Chris leads Second Story Partnership, coaching leaders and teams in clarity, resilience, and transformation. His leadership insights sharpen his approach to preaching—bridging biblical faithfulness with real-world leadership challenges. Chris and his wife, Abby, live in Richmond with their three sons and enjoy life around good food, meaningful conversations, and family adventures.
